Special Legislative Funding Leads to Road Projects in Grand Traverse County

Grand Traverse County residents can look forward to improved road conditions thanks to projects made possible by a special fund created in the Fiscal Year 2014 state budget, state Rep. Wayne Schmidt announced.

"While we continue to work on a comprehensive way to fix our current road funding situation, our roads will see some much needed improvements thanks to this one-time infusion of dollars into our transportation system,” said Schmidt, R-Traverse City and chair of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. “Consecutive years of state government living within its means have paved the way for us to be able to invest in these vital projects.”

Projects slated for Grand Traverse County include $500,000 for a PEL Study on Division Street between 14th Street and Grand View Parkway, $1 million for repairs on West Front Street, and more than $300,000 for roads within the villages of Kingsley and Fife Lake. Out of the $115 million appropriated state-wide through the Roads and Risk Reserve (RRR) Fund, over $2.15 million will be used for road projects in Grand Traverse County and nearly $17.5 million will go toward infrastructure repairs throughout northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula.

"These projects will provide much needed infrastructure improvements for northern Michigan and the U.P.,” Schmidt said. “Ensuring that our region has a safe and functional transportation system is essential for preserving our economic freedom and way of life.”

In total, $230 million was put into the RRR fund as part of the fiscal year 2014 budget. The other half of the funds could be appropriated for roads as soon as Feb. 1, 2014.

Schuette Announces Statewide Grassroots Leadership Team

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette today announced 130 grassroots leaders from counties across Michigan have joined his statewide Schuette Grassroots Leadership Team.  As 2014 approaches, the breadth and depth of the Schuette organization shows the strength of support for the achievements of Attorney General Schuette during his first term in office.

“This strong team of women and men have committed their reputations and hard work to our cause of being a voice for the Constitution and the victims of crime,” Schuette said.  “With the help of this team of conservative leaders, we will work hard to build upon the successes of the last three years.  I cannot thank them enough for their efforts to help make Michigan a safer place."

Schuette said his focus on protecting victims of crime and defending the Constitution has resulted in this strong support, with efforts such as fighting the unconstitutionality of Obamacare, seeking justice for the victims of rape, human trafficking and tainted pharmaceuticals and protecting children from violence in schools.

Schuette's team of 130 county leaders shows great strength with a geographical footprint that covers all 83 counties and includes 57 women and 73 men.  The following are Grand Traverse county leaders on the Schuette Grassroots Leadership Team: Anna Mouser, Eric Grebe and Molly Agostinelli.
