Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is established under Michigan Election Law, MCL 168.599. It is made up of 36 members: 18 Delegate Elected Members and 18 Nominee Members.
The 18 Delegate Elected Members are selected by the precinct delegates at the fall county convention, which is called within 20 days after the November general election in even-numbered years. MCL 168.599(1). Delegate Elected Members serve a 2-year term.
The 18 Nominee Members are the Republican nominees for each county office and state legislative office that includes Grand Traverse County. Under MCL 168.599(1), those seats belong to “the persons most recently nominated by the party” for those offices. Nomination occurs at the August primary. See MCL 168.534 and MCL 168.197. When a new nomination is made at that August primary, the new nominee immediately replaces the former nominee on the Executive Committee. MCL 168.599(1). A Nominee Member’s service continues for the term of the office for which he or she was nominated.
Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at the Grand Traverse County Republican Party Action Center, 1744 S Garfield Ave, Traverse City. For questions about the meeting location, email secretary@gtgop.org.
